A 200 acre working farm and activity centre
Built on a working 200 acre farm in attractive country woodland overlooking the Bristol Channel and Wales, Weston Lodge Shooting Ground offers clay pigeon shooting, off-road karting and quad biking for corporate and family days out.
Mediatopia have been redesigning and redeveloping this website for nearly ten years. During that time we secured WLSG the number one spot on Google for their keywords and have kept the site updated with the latest technology. It is currently responsive, with social media integrations and our latest content management system.
Ten years on one client is unusual in this industry, and it is the part of this case study worth paying attention to. A website is not a project that finishes; it is something that needs maintaining, updating and re-platforming as the technology moves. Rankings that took years to build are lost in months by sites nobody looks after.
What an activity centre website has to do
Activity businesses sell two quite different things to two quite different buyers. A family looking for a Saturday morning wants prices, times and how to book. A company organising a team day wants group capacity, catering and whether you can handle thirty people. Those are different pages with different calls to action.
Both start on a phone. Somebody deciding what to do at the weekend is searching on a mobile, often the same day, so the site must be fast and the booking route obvious. We build mobile-first and test on real devices for exactly this reason.
Photography and video matter here as much as in hospitality. Someone who has never shot clays does not know what to expect, and the website has to answer that before they will book. Real pictures of real sessions do more than any amount of copy.
Ten years of SEO, not a one-off launch
Getting to number one is a project. Staying there is a habit. Over the decade we have worked with Weston Lodge the site has been rebuilt more than once, moved to responsive, had its content restructured and its search optimisation kept current as Google has changed what it rewards.
That is the argument for having the same person build, host and maintain the site rather than splitting it across three suppliers. Nothing falls between the gaps, and the person fixing it is the person who wrote it.
If you run an activity centre, shooting ground, karting track or similar and the website is not bringing bookings, that is the work. The Ston Easton hotel case study and the Sarah Jane Kitchens case study are comparable projects.
Project development work carried out
Responsive Redevelopment
Rebuilt for mobile as search shifted, so a family deciding on a Saturday morning gets a fast, usable site on a phone.
Search Engine Optimisation
Number one Google rankings for their keywords, maintained over nearly a decade rather than achieved once and abandoned.
Content Management System
Our own CMS integrated throughout, so prices, sessions and events can be updated in-house without a developer.
