Answers to the questions people always ask!
A landing page is a term used in the web marketing world. It is a page on your website that can either be a product page or a service page, it can be any page that you want web traffic to arrive at, but usually, it is a money page used to get people to purchase from or can be signed up to.
It depends on how the page has been created. If you want to use a page on your website and target a specific keyword, then yes, depending on the skill of the person who has optimised your page, it will rank (Mediatopia has over 200 landing pages that rank on Google!!). However, many landing pages on Instagram and Facebook are now used for marketing purposes. People are paying to promote these pages as paying for these pages is a much quicker process than doing organic SEO!
Not necessarily. Again, it depends on what your subject matter is. Suppose you own a website whose subject matter is similar to the landing page you want to create. In that case, you do not need to. If you want it to look as if you are unassociated with the product/service that you are trying to sell, then yes, you could buy a new domain, especially if you are going to promote on social media or Google Adwords. However, getting a page to rank organically on your website can be difficult if you have a low domain rank or a reasonably new domain.
The million-dollar question, lol. Firstly, you need to have all the necessary content for the product or service you are trying to promote. Make sure your imagery amply shows off your product or service correctly. Use video if it is a service. You can also use video if it is a product. Ensure the video is not too long, as you do not want anyone to bounce off the page. Creating the ultimate landing page is all about trial and error. In the first instance, all the content must appear above the fold on a desktop or laptop. On a mobile, it needs to appear immediately on screen, and likewise, for a tablet, whether you use CTA (call to action) buttons, a form or purchasing buttons, the design of your page needs to be on point. Make sure there are no unnecessary links on the page, as the last thing you want is traffic to go elsewhere, and finally, install some page tracking software so you can see how people interact with the page. When the page is launched, and you have started promoting it, you need to analyse all the information and then redesign or change content, split test it to ensure you have approached it from every angle. This is why designing landing pages is an art form, not something that can be done quickly.
Landing pages should be used all the time. In all honesty, landing pages have been around since the dawn of the internet. Lots of marketing people coin these phrases to sound fancy. Still, a specific page on a website is, in fact, a landing page if it is targeting a service or a product. However, this is where years of knowledge of designing and writing content for hundreds of websites come into play—knowing how to optimise a landing page to be found on Google or thriving on social media comes down to experience.
Again, it depends on what you want to do! If you have a business, you need a good website with pages describing what you do and your services with contact details. A landing page will be ideal if you have a singular product or service that you want to promote and a marketing budget.
