Luciee Marie Closier was a contestant on the BBC One television show The Voice. Luciee was on Ricky Wilson’s team — better known as the lead singer of the Kaiser Chiefs.
Mediatopia met with Luciee at The Sugar Hut, along with her PR manager, to discuss creating a funky landing page that would showcase Luciee’s music alongside a brief biography covering her trajectory as an emerging artist.
What a musician’s website is actually for
An artist website is not competing with Spotify, and trying to make it do so is the usual mistake. Streaming platforms own listening. What the website owns is everything the platforms will not give you: the mailing list, the press assets, the booking contact and the story.
For an emerging artist coming off national television, timing is everything. Attention spikes and then fades, and the job of the site is to convert that spike into something durable — an email address, a follow, a booking enquiry from a promoter who saw the show.
That is why a single well-built landing page often beats a sprawling site. One page, the music playing, the story, the contact, and nothing else to get lost in. Built as a landing page, because that audience is on a phone without exception.
Owning your own audience
Every platform an artist builds on is rented. Algorithms change, reach collapses, accounts get suspended. A mailing list collected through your own website is the only audience you actually own, and it is the one that still works in five years.
The website is also where press and promoters go. A booking agent checking whether you are worth putting on wants photographs, a biography, live footage and a contact that is not a social media inbox. Making that easy is worth more than any amount of design flourish.
If you are an artist, band or music business needing a site that does the job, get in touch. The TESA charity case study is a comparable project where the visual impact carried the brief.
Project development work carried out
Landing Page Design
A single funky landing page focused entirely on showcasing the music, rather than a site with nothing to fill it.
Artist Biography
A brief bio covering the trajectory as an emerging artist, written for press and promoters as much as for fans.
Music Showcase
The music front and centre, so a visitor arriving from television coverage hears it within seconds rather than reading about it.
