School news

School closes at 1:30pm on Friday for the end of term. Have a lovely break!

A school website has two jobs

Parents use it every week: term dates, letters home, clubs, dinners, the uniform list. Prospective parents use it before they ever visit, to decide whether your school goes on the shortlist.

And part of it is decided for you. The Department for Education sets out information schools must publish online, from Ofsted reports and admissions to SEND and pupil premium, and it has to be current and easy to find.

The difference is who keeps it up to date. On the school sites we build, the office changes the words and photos on the page itself, with its own login, so nothing waits for a developer.

  2. Current parentsTerm dates, letters and clubs, every week
  3. Governors and the rulesStatutory information, kept current

The three ways

Where school websites go wrong

Statutory pages scattered.

Policies and reports spread across menus, documents with no dates, and pages nobody has touched in years. A parent or a governor should find each one in two clicks.

Documents lost in a move.

Change website and the old links to letters, policies and newsletters break. When we moved Boldmere, 121 documents came across onto our own storage, so nothing points back to the old host.

One person holds the keys.

If every change goes through one member of staff or an outside company, the term dates go stale. The office should be able to fix a typo in the time it takes to spot it.

Built for parents on phones

Parents open the school website on a phone, at the school gate or in the evening. The office number, the term dates and the latest letters have to be one tap away, which is why we build mobile-first.

Behind that sits the structure: a page for every statutory item, staff and governors in proper team grids, admissions set out step by step, and newsletters and diary dates kept in one place.

For a federation, one landing page sends each family to the right school, and each school keeps its own site, its own documents and its own login.

What We Build

What this sector needs

Editing by the School Office

The office changes the words and photos on the page with its own login. New pages and documents come to us, and every request is answered the same working day.

Every Statutory Page

A page for each item schools must publish, each easy to find from the menu and kept together.

Documents That Survive a Move

Policies, letters and newsletters moved onto our own storage, so nothing breaks when the old host is switched off.

Prices

What it costs and how it works

Websites start from £69 a month for a focused site and £119 a month for a larger build with a content management system, so the office can edit it. Larger builds, such as a site for each school in a federation, are quoted. Full detail is on the pricing page.

Every price is agreed in writing before work starts. Hosting and support run from £45 a month on UK servers, on our Care plan, with every support request answered the same working day. See the full case studies.

Common Questions

School Website Design FAQs

Can the school office update the website?

Yes. The office signs in on the school's own site and changes the words and photos on the page itself. New pages and documents come to us, and every request is answered the same working day.

What does a school website have to publish?

The Department for Education sets out what schools must publish online, from Ofsted reports, admissions and the curriculum to SEND, pupil premium and PE and sport premium. We give each item its own page and keep them together, so they are easy to find.

Can you move our documents from the old website?

Yes. For Boldmere we moved 121 documents onto our own storage, so none of the new pages link back to the old host and it can be switched off without breaking anything.

Do you build for federations and groups of schools?

Yes. The Federation of Boldmere Schools has one landing page that sends each family to the right school, and each school has its own full site.

Do you work with online schools?

Yes. Net School, an online school teaching Key Stage 3, IGCSE and A Level, has a page for each course, its teachers introduced, and a calculator that works out a term's fees.

How much does a school website cost?

From £69 a month for a focused site, or £119 a month with a content management system so the office can edit it, with hosting and support included. Larger builds are quoted.
