About Gary Gabriel Associates
Gary Gabriel Associates was formed in 1983. From modest beginnings the company grew quickly to become a well established and respected consultancy, working for a variety of clients across a broad range of sectors.
GGA employ over 60 staff, and alongside their parent company Fairhurst — who have 16 offices and 450 staff — offer a genuinely national service.
For the launch of the GGA 30th anniversary, Mediatopia redesigned and redeveloped the website with a new project catalogue and a mobile and tablet design, which updates automatically when the team edit their bespoke content management system.
Why the project catalogue is the whole site
Engineering consultancies are appointed on evidence. A client deciding whether to put you on a tender list wants to see work of a comparable type, scale and sector — and if they cannot find it in a couple of minutes they will look at the practice that made it easy.
That is why the project catalogue was the centre of the GGA rebuild rather than a section at the back. Every project gets its own page with its own images, sector and description, which means it is findable in search as well as browsable on the site. A PDF portfolio does neither.
The other requirement was that the engineers could add projects themselves. A catalogue that requires a developer to update stops being updated within a year, so the content management system had to make adding a project as easy as writing an email.
Professional services websites and credibility
Nobody appoints a structural engineer because of a clever website. But plenty of practices get quietly discounted because of a bad one — a site that looks a decade old suggests a practice that has not invested in anything else either, fairly or not.
The bar is not high, which is precisely why it is worth clearing. Current work, clear sector coverage, real accreditations, the people, and a site that works properly on a phone. Most engineering practice websites fail at least two of those.
If you run an engineering, architectural or professional consultancy and the website is not representing the work, that is the job. The S.Morris construction case study and the Prolift Access case study are comparable technical-sector projects.
